WINNIPEG - CTV News (Updated: Wed Feb. 04 2009 16:05:53 - The Canadian Press) - Health Canada has recalled Safety 1st baby gates manufactured by Dorel Industries Inc...they pose a falling hazard when mounted at the top of stairs...About 58,000 of the gates were sold in Canada between December 2004 and January 2009.
TORONTO - CBC News Staff (Last Updated: Wed. Jan. 21, 2009 12:23 PM ET) - It's now illegal to light up a cigarette in a vehicle carrying a child in Ontario, the second province to institute such a ban.
The new law, effective Wednesday, protects those under age 16 from second-hand smoke.
Nova Scotia's law took effect April 1, and prohibits smoking in cars carrying children under 19. B.C. passed a similar law, though it's not yet in force. New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island are also considering a ban.

TORONTO - CBC News Staff (Last updated Tue. Jan. 13 2009 6:55 PM ET) - Vancouver-based manufacturer Stork Craft is voluntarily recalling more than a million baby cribs in Canada and the United States over a potential suffocation hazard.
The cribs were manufactured in Canada, China and Indonesia between May 2000 and November 2008, the company said in a release.
..The CPSC said it is aware of 10 incidents in which one or more mattress support brackets broke, including one instance in which a toddler sustained bruises to his forehead...
